God's Promises: Day 14: A gift for all
/I just spent the last 11 days enjoying a wonderful family vacation. 3 days of driving to Orlando, 6 days enjoying the hot Florida sun in Disney World, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay, and 2 days driving back. The memories made with my son are irreplaceable. Seeing him enjoying this time, hearing him yell at the top of his lungs with pure joy "This is so awesome!!" on his first roller coaster, gave my heart the recharge I felt it needed. And I can't help but be reminded once again, that God has got us in His hands. This trip truly was a gift, something that I would not have been able to provide for my son without the help of my family.
So better late than never, I'm finishing off this series of God's promises with a reminder of the greatest promise that God has ever given us.
"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:13
This verse is a promise of the greatest gift of all from God. Salvation. "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved." Romans 10:9-10. This is a gift for all who choose to believe.
God really did make it that beautiful and that simple for us, but we try to complicate it. We often think that we have to earn our salvation through doing good works, like we need to check off boxes from a list. We are given salvation by God's grace. There is absolutely nothing we can do to earn it. But here's the thing... if we believe in something, our life will be a reflection of what we believe.
I believe in CrossFit, so I do CrossFit. I believe that proper nutrition will do my body good, so I eat whole foods. My son believes in Santa Clause, so he writes a Christmas list for him. I believe in God, the Father, and His Son, Jesus, so my life should be a reflection of that.
And here's the next thing... we are not perfect and God never expects us to be perfect. Our life may not always reflect our belief in Christ. We will have moments of weakness. There will be times when we mess up and fall off track. But one of the beautiful parts about God's unconditional love for us is FORGIVENESS. All you need to do is humble yourself enough to admit that you were wrong, turn back to Him, and He will accept you back with open arms every single time. That's not an open invitation to fall of track whenever you want, but security knowing that you can never be too far from God's grace.
These are lyrics from a song by Miley Cyrus called "When I look at you." It's a beautiful song. When I heard it, I instantly thought of my relationship with Jesus Christ.
"Everybody needs inspiration
Everybody needs a song
A beautiful melody
When the nights are long
'Cause there is no guarantee
That this life is easy
Yeah when my world is falling apart
When there's no light
To break up the dark
That's when I, I
I look at you
When the waves are flooding the shore
And I can't find my way home any more
That's when I, I
I look at you
When I look at you
I see forgiveness
I see the truth
You love me for who I am
Like the stars hold the moon
Right there where they belong
And I know I'm not alone"
Jesus is there to be our light in the darkness. He's there to guide us back home. He's there to offer us truth and forgiveness in any situation. We can never be too broken for Him to turn us away. FORGIVENESS will be offered every single time. All we need to do is turn to Him. That type of love and grace is something that I never want to let go of.
