Your Journey is Unique

Your Journey is Unique

Our church just finished a series on the Ten Commandments.  This particular story in the Bible is a passage that, as an adult, I do not give as much focus to when I'm reading the Word.  I think there are so many great lessons to be learned about the Israelites and their journey out of Egypt, but when it comes to the Ten Commandments,  I would say that I've always skimmed over that part.  So it was refreshing to go deeper into the Ten Commandments and find even more truth in it than simply do not lie, cheat, and steal.  And in this particular season of my life, it was a much needed reminder.  Throughout the ten week series, the focus has been on this:

In every commandment, there is a principle to follow and a blessing for obedience.

My first hiking trip on the Appalachian Trail

My first hiking trip on the Appalachian Trail

Wow! This is my first post in about 2 weeks.  Life has been BUSY... sometimes overwhelming and sometimes scary.  I'm sure you've heard the argument that being busy is a choice.  My answer to that is yes and no, and I would ask WHY is that person so busy?  Busyness is not always something that a person simply chooses to be because of the tasks they decided to take on.  Sometimes it is inevitable in different seasons of life.  I'm in a season of waiting.  Waiting on God.  And while I'm waiting, I'm choosing to put my hope in what it says in His Word, and choosing to believe that He hears my cries.  But through the waiting, I know that there are responsibilities on my end.  I have to do my part and take action with the blessings of provision that He presents to me.  And that is exactly what I am doing.  I am taking ACTION.

"Worship while you wait."

"Worship while you wait."

Lately, I feel like I've been God's guinea pig of faith.  You ever feel like that?  Wondering where that light at the end of the tunnel is?  Sometimes, I feel like telling Him, "Alright, God, you've got me.  I'm yours.  I'm not going anywhere."  But it's so true.  I'm not going anywhere.  Jesus has got me for life.  It's a decision that I made a long time ago.  And it's a decision that I will continue to make every single day.

I Still Believe

I Still Believe

Music is a way that I connect with God.  I have a lot of favorite worship songs.  "I still believe" is one of them.  It's a song that I've always loved since hearing it for the first time back in 2008.  2008 was a tough year for me.  I had just experienced a tragic loss, something that no 23 year old should have to go through.  That was the year that I developed a true relationship with Christ.  I made a choice to stay rooted in Christ, because it's His strength I wanted to carry me through.  I remember listening to these lyrics, singing with all of my heart, making the choice to still believe in His faithfulness

Faith over Fear

Faith over Fear

There's something that has resonated with me for the last couple weeks.  "Make Me bigger than the mountains you are facing."  I heard this at my church during the last sermon of a series that the Pastor had been preaching on.  He told us that if we are going to overcome limitations, we must magnify God, and not the mountains that we are facing.  It stuck with me.  And every time I start to feel overwhelmed by a situation, I hear "Make me bigger than the mountains you are facing."  It's like I can feel God trying to let me know to hang on a little longer, that He's got this in His hands.

Trust the Process

Trust the Process

Good morning, ya'll!!  It's a beautiful Saturday morning, and I am determined to have a great day!!  I started off the morning the best way I know how, and that's by spending some time in the Word of God.

I enjoy spending time in the Word of God and in prayer.  I'm not always consistent with it, but I feel that it is important when seeking a relationship with Christ.

If you want any relationship to thrive, you must invest time and effort.  Just as that applies to our earthly relationships, that same concept applies to our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

Self-Love: Because you are Fearfully and Wonderfully made

Self-Love: Because you are Fearfully and Wonderfully made

After months of experiencing negativity being spoken into my life, I am re-teaching myself the art of self-love.  Unfortunately, there are some confused people in this world who choose to see the negative over the positive, and they allow that to affect (what should be) beautiful things.  If you always choose to let the good outweigh the bad, you will ALWAYS see beauty in others, in your relationships, in your life.

God's Promises: Day 14: A gift for all

God's Promises: Day 14: A gift for all

I just spent the last 11 days enjoying a wonderful family vacation.  3 days of driving to Orlando, 6 days enjoying the hot Florida sun in Disney World, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay, and 2 days driving back. The memories made with my son are irreplaceable.  Seeing him enjoying this time, hearing him yell at the top of his lungs with pure joy "This is so awesome!!" on his first roller coaster, gave my heart the recharge I felt it needed.  And I can't help but be reminded once again, that God has got us in His hands.  This trip truly was a gift, something that I would not have been able to provide for my son without the help of my family.

So better late than never, I'm finishing off this series of God's promises with a reminder of the greatest promise that God has ever given us.

"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."  Romans 10:13

God's Promises: Day 13: Matthew 11:28 hit home for me.

God's Promises: Day 13: Matthew 11:28 hit home for me.

Tonight as I was in my room, folding laundry, listening to my Third Day Pandora Station, I became overwhelmed thinking about certain circumstances that I have no control over.  I hit my knees and cried.  I felt helpless.  Alone.  Hurt.  I started calling out to God, just telling Him that I needed Him.   And in that moment, the song "Good good Father" came on.

God's Promises: Day 12: He provides a way out (from temptations)

God's Promises: Day 12: He provides a way out (from temptations)

Temptations are real.  They happen every day.  And we have a choice.  Either we give in or we don't.

Many of those temptations that we face are dangerous and giving in to them will cause destruction.  These dangerous temptations give us a false perception of reality, and the more we indulge in them, the more it shapes us and tricks us into thinking of it as a real image.

God promises an escape for us.  "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."  1 Corinthians 10:13

God's Promises: Day 11: His Word is Faithful

God's Promises: Day 11: His Word is Faithful

Hebrews 10:23 "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful."

Have you ever completely trusted someone with all of their heart only to be let down when they do not follow through with their word?  It's hurtful.  You feel betrayed.  Loyalty is a precious quality to find in a person, but unfortunately in this world, selfishness often takes precedence.  Imagine having a person in your life that you never have to worry about betraying you, a person whose faithfulness is more than you could ever imagine.  It sounds comforting, right?  I have found that person, and his name is Jesus Christ.  In a world where loyalty runs thin and faithfulness is not protected, you can trust that God, His Word, and His promises will always remain true... that He will always remain faithful.

God's Promises: Day 10: He will make straight your paths

God's Promises: Day 10: He will make straight your paths

"In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths."  Proverbs 3:6

I often think of the Bible as our blueprint for life.  There are so many stories and examples that teach us what to do when we face similar situations.  In a previous post, I had mentioned the story of the Israelites and their reaction when faced with the Red Sea in front of them and the Egyptians closing in behind them.  One thing that story teaches us is about faith, but more specifically to not lose faith during our trials.  It prompts us to remember the way God has been faithful in our own lives.  Just because we face what seems like a current impossible situation, does not mean that God is not currently there fighting for us.

God's Promises: Day 9: We do not have to fear

God's Promises: Day 9: We do not have to fear

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze."  Isaiah 43:2

This verse hits home for me and is a huge source of hope and encouragement.

Sometimes the challenges of life in this broken and sinful world can make it seem like God is no where to be found.  Sometimes it makes us wonder if God really does love us.

Did you know that the phrase "Fear not" is stated over 300 times in the Bible?

God's Promises: Day 8: He will provide

God's Promises: Day 8: He will provide

I had to take a couple days off because...life happens... but I'm back at it this beautiful Sunday morning with Romans 8:32 " He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?"

This is one of those verses that makes me stop and really take it in.  It makes me think about the immense love that God has for us.

God allowed his Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer on the cross for US.

God's Promises, Day 7: The Lord will sustain you

God's Promises, Day 7: The Lord will sustain you

Isaiah 46:4 "Even to your old age and grey hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you.  I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you."

The truth is, no matter how things may feel in the moment, God has never left our side.  God will never leave us.  It is we who leave Him and fail to put our trust in Him.  The good news is that He will always be there to accept us back with arms wide open.  No exceptions.

God's Promises, Day 6: Romans 8:28

God's Promises, Day 6: Romans 8:28

Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."

This verse does not mean that bad things will never happen to those who love the Lord.  Instead, it's saying, as Timothy Keller puts it, God will give bad things good effects in your life.  No where in the Bible does it say that as Christians, we are immune to bad circumstances.  But God does promise to be there for us through it all.

God's Promises, Day 5: "The Lord will fight for you"

God's Promises, Day 5: "The Lord will fight for you"

Exodus 14:14 "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."  This is what Moses told the Israelites when they were standing in front of the Red Sea with Pharaoh and his soldiers closing in on them.  At this point, God had already freed them from Pharaoh and had been leading them through the desert with a pillar of clouds during the day and pillar of fire at night.  As the Israelites stood in front of the Red Sea, they felt hopeless, wondering why God would bring them this far only to be handed back over to Pharaoh.

God's Promises, Day 4: Grace Upon Grace

God's Promises, Day 4: Grace Upon Grace

"For from his fullness, we have all received grace upon grace.  For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."  John 1:16-17

When I think about how much Jesus loves us, it hits me straight in my heart.  I know that He loved me so much to die on the cross for my sins.  I know that no matter what I do, no matter how I might change, no matter how much I might push Him away, He is never letting go away of me.

God's Promises, Day 3: "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

God's Promises, Day 3: "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

Do you ever have a hard time trusting in God?  Believing that He will pull through for you like it says in His Word?  I'm not always consistent with it, but I enjoy spending time in prayer.  It's in those moments when I am talking to Jesus, that my thoughts become more clear, my heart begins to get softer, and I start regaining my confidence in Christ.  So many times, my prayers will start by telling Jesus that I am having a hard time trusting in Him.

God's Promises, Day 2: "You Will Seek Me and Find Me"

God's Promises, Day 2: "You Will Seek Me and Find Me"

One of the most popular verses in the Bible is Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  It's a great verse!  Full or encouragement and hope.  But what I love even more is what comes directly after that verse.

"Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."  Jeremiah 29:12-13
