God's Promises, Day 4: Grace Upon Grace
/"For from his fullness, we have all received grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." John 1:16-17
When I think about how much Jesus loves us, it hits me straight in my heart. I know that He loved me so much to die on the cross for my sins. I know that no matter what I do, no matter how I might change, no matter how much I might push Him away, He is never letting go of me.
Something about me is that I am a tiny 5'2" girl (with a whole lot of muscle), has a baby face that at the age of 32 still gets me carded for an alcoholic beverage, but underneath all of that, I am crazy stubborn and can have a nasty Irish temper. I am fully capable of admitting where my faults are and know that I've still got some work to do with taming that Irish side of me. But even with those faults, Jesus' love for me is completely unconditional. He will not reject me if I get angry with Him, or if I get lazy with spending time with Him. His faithfulness remains unwavering no matter how short I fall from deserving His goodness.
Something else about me is that I genuinely enjoy music. I think its beautiful. I enjoy songs with meaningful lyrics, and I really connect with Christian music. Its a way for me to feel God's presence as I pour my heart out to Him in the form of worship. One of my favorites songs is "How He Loves" by David Crowder Band:
"And we are His portion, and He is our His prize,
drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes.
If His grace is an ocean, we're all sinking.
And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss,
and my heart turns violently inside of my chest.
I don't have time to maintain these regrets
when I think about the way...
That He loves us..."
This song reminds me that God's love for us is so great, there are no limits to what His grace can cover. "If His grace is an ocean, we're all sinking." His grace covers every area of my life. It means that I can never turn away so many times that Jesus's grace wont be there to bring me back if I choose so. And what's even more unbelievable, is that this grace is not something that Jesus expects us to earn. He freely gives it to us if we choose to believe.
